In December 2024, we informed you about an important change: our Core Security Package is now a requirement for all Initial IT clients.
This decision was not made lightly and it’s a critical step to ensure that every business we work with has the right level of protection and recovery capabilities to stay safe in today’s digital world.
In this post, we’ll explain what the Core Security Package includes, why it’s essential, and how it will benefit your business.

Why Is the Core Security Package Mandatory?
Cyber Security threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and small to medium-sized businesses are a primary target. Without the right security measures, businesses face significant risks, including data breaches, downtime, and financial loss.
The Core Security Package sets a consistent baseline for security across all our clients. It ensures we have the tools in place to protect your business effectively, minimise risks, and respond swiftly to incidents.
By making this package mandatory, we can:
Reduce vulnerabilities in your IT environment.
Ensure fast recovery in the event of a breach or disaster.
Provide consistent, high-quality service to every client.
What Does the Core Security Package Include?
The Core Security Package is designed around two critical areas: Protection and Recovery.
Together, they form a comprehensive approach to keeping your business safe.
1. Protection: Proactively Guarding Against Threats
The first layer of security is all about prevention. This involves continuously monitoring and defending your systems against threats like malware, ransomware, and phishing attacks.
Key Features of the Protection Layer
AI-Driven Threat Detection: Advanced systems that analyse behaviour in real time to identify and stop potential threats before they cause damage.
Automated Incident Response: Immediate isolation and mitigation of threats, reducing the need for manual intervention.
System Rollback: Restores your systems to a safe state if unauthorised changes are detected.
Microsoft 365 Security Monitoring: Tracks your Microsoft 365 environment against our security benchmarks, alerting you to any changes in critical settings that could introduce vulnerabilities.
Automated Patch Management: Ensures all operating systems and third-party applications are updated with the latest security patches, closing vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.
2. Recovery: Ensuring Business Continuity
Even with robust protection, no system is completely immune to cyber threats. That’s why recovery is just as important. This layer focuses on securing your Microsoft 365 data and ensuring rapid restoration in the event of an incident.
Key Features of the Recovery Layer:
Immutable Backups: Data is securely stored in tamper-proof environments to guard against ransomware attacks.
Granular Recovery Options: Whether you need a single file or an entire system restored, this feature ensures you can recover quickly.
Self-Service File Recovery: Empowers your team to restore lost files independently, reducing downtime.
Flexible Storage Solutions: Options for cloud, local, or hybrid storage tailored to your specific business needs.
Proactive Backup Monitoring: Regular checks to ensure backups are up-to-date and ready for recovery.
How We’re Rolling Out the Core Security Package
We’re rolling out the Core Security Package features in a controlled and measured way throughout January. T
his process ensures minimal disruption to your operations while giving us time to coordinate with you at each stage.
What You Can Expect:
Clear Communication: We’ll notify you about upcoming changes and explain how they impact your business.
Collaborative Implementation: Our team will work closely with you to ensure a seamless transition.
Onboarding Support: We’ll provide guidance and answer any questions to help you understand and benefit from the new tools.
Additional Recommendations for Enhanced Security
While the Core Security Package provides a strong foundation, there are two additional steps we recommend:
Cyber Essentials Certification: This government-backed program helps businesses protect against common cyber threats and demonstrates your commitment to cybersecurity. Our Core Security Package helps you meet many of the certification requirements, and we’re here to guide you through the process.
Cyber Insurance Review: Cyber insurance covers the often substantial costs of recovering from a breach, including professional recovery services that can exceed £50,000. We offer a free review of your current policy to ensure it’s fit for purpose and provides the coverage you need. If you don't have any Cyber Insurance then we strongly advise that you get some. We have a couple of companies we can recommend if required.
What You Need to Do
There’s no immediate action required from you. We’ll be in touch to coordinate the rollout of the Core Security Package and discuss additional steps like Cyber Essentials certification and insurance reviews.
Your Security, Simplified
